Emergency Update: Urgent Support Needed for Flood-Affected Regions in Pakistan:
The recent unseasonal rainfall has triggered devastating floods across Pakistan, leading to heartbreaking losses and widespread damage. Here’s a critical update on the situation:
- Deaths and Injuries: The floods have claimed 99 lives, including 44 children, and injured 94 people. The province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) alone has seen 63 fatalities
- Displacement: In KP, heavy rains have displaced 194 families, totaling 1,211 individuals, primarily in the Lower Chitral district.
- Structural Damage: Over 3,500 homes have been damaged, with 557 completely destroyed. Additionally, 464 schools have been affected, disrupting education for countless children.
- Livestock and Agriculture: The floods have also resulted in the loss of over 350 livestock, further threatening the livelihoods of local communities.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of KP and other local authorities are actively coordinating relief efforts. However, the scope of the disaster requires substantial support.
