Can you give your Zakat to someone in your own family?

In many cases, yes.

In fact, helping a relative who is truly in need can be a beautiful way to give.

But there are rules.

Some family members can receive your Zakat if they qualify.

Others normally cannot receive your Zakat because you are already responsible for helping them.

A brother or sister may receive your Zakat if they are poor, needy, in serious debt, or fall into another group that can receive Zakat.
