Addressing Hunger and Poverty
Uganda, known for its hospitality, has become a sanctuary for refugees from neighboring countries, hosting over 1.4 million refugees, the largest refugee population in Africa. While Uganda’s progressive refugee policies have been praised internationally, the country faces significant challenges, including environmental issues, food insecurity, and the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly a quarter of Uganda’s own population lives below the poverty line, with children and refugees among the most affected by hunger and malnutrition.
Emergency Support in Uganda
Humanity-Increased is actively responding to the urgent needs in Uganda through the provision of emergency support and the establishment of Food Pantries. Our goal is to address the immediate needs of the most vulnerable populations, including indigenous communities, refugees, and children, ensuring they have access to food, clean water, and basic necessities.
Why Support is Urgently Needed:
- Combating Hunger:With over 30% of children under five stunted due to malnutrition, our emergency support aims to combat hunger directly, providing nutritious food to those in desperate need.
- Supporting Refugees and Host Communities: As host communities and refugees alike face economic hardships, our programs are designed to support both, fostering solidarity and reducing tensions.
- Building Resilience: By providing resources and support, we help communities build resilience against future shocks, whether economic, environmental, or health-related.
- Maximizing Impact:Our efficient use of funds ensures that every donation goes directly to those in need, with a focus on sustainable aid that empowers individuals and communities.
The Situation in Uganda
Uganda’s generosity in hosting refugees is a testament to its people’s resilience and compassion. However, the strain on resources has been compounded by recent locust invasions and the impacts of climate change, leading to increased food insecurity. The COVID-19 pandemic has further exacerbated economic vulnerabilities, pushing more families into poverty and hunger.
